But it is necessary to probe deeper to examine the many different narrative and literary strategies writers who wanted to explore non-normative sexuality used to challenge assumptions about family, domesticity, private life and selfhood. Other writers focused on exposing the lies and hypocrisy required to protect public heterosexual norms, class and male privilege.
